Japanese telecoms firm heads to Rangoon

Japanese telecommunications giant KDDI Corporation has announced 
that it will open an office in Burma’s commercial hub, Rangoon, 
joining a recent wave of international ICT and telecoms firms lining up 
to invest in the nascent Southeast Asian democracy. 

Burma wants to downsize Dawei, says Thai daily

Thailand’s The Nation reported on Wednesday that Burma’s government has
 “caused Thailand concern” by proposing a significant reduction in the overall 
area of the Dawei Special Economic Zone from 204.5 sq km to 150 sq km.

Undocumented migrant workers face deportation

The National Verification (NV) offices in Chiang Mai and Myawaddy announced 
on December 18—International Migrants Day—that they will extend their 
deadline for migrants to register until the end of the year; however other NV 
centers—including those in Mahachai and Ranong—did not, leaving hundreds 
of thousands of undocumented migrants from Burma, Cambodia 
and Laos facing arrest and deportation.
