Thai cement company eyeing Burma

(Mizzima) – In another sign of Thailand companies moving into 
neighboring Burma, Siam City Cement Plc (SCCC) is looking at 
building a cement plant in Burma. 

Farmers fear gov’t seizure of farmland

Chiang Mai (Mizzima) – More than 700 acres of farmland in Taunggyi in 
southern Shan State have been marked off with stakes and banners by
authorities, leading to local farmers’ fears that their land will be confiscated.

Despite ceasefire agreements reached between Naypyitaw and 
Shan State Army (SSA) both North and South factions, which have
brought unprecedented peace to most of Shan State, the stream 
of people traveling to Thailand to find work or to stay with their 
relatives who are already there is still unstoppable, according to 
sources on the border.
