US Congressman Said Army Atrocities In Kachin State Could Be War

An Arizona congressman has stated that the Burma army has committed 
human rights violations against the ethnic Kachin.

“The atrocities committed against the Kachin by the Burma Army may amount 
to war crimes or crimes against humanity” said Trent Franks, co-chairman 
of the International Religious Freedom Caucus. The conservative Republican 
lawmaker's comments appeared in an opinion piece published 
by the Washington Times newspaper last Monday.

as the first ever alternative rock band from the Southeast Asian nation to tour in Europe.

Police extends remand of six arrested Arakanese men in Sittwe

The police in Sittwe, the capital in Arakan State, have further extended the remand 
of six Arakanese men who have been arrested from nearby Mrauk-U Township 
for six more days.

This is said to be the second time the police have extended the remand 
for them since they have been transferred from Mrauk-U to 
the Police Station No.1 in Sittwe.

Police arrest four miners during march to Naypyidaw

Four miners from Moehti Moemi gold mine in central Burma’s Yemathin township, 
who have been marching to Naypyidaw to protest a government order that closed 
their mines, were attacked by police and arrested today near Myohla town.

Burma's opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi on Friday dismissed suggestions 
that anticipated economic progress in the country will resolve its longstanding
