Shan civil society out to stem investment tide

The 16 Shan CBOs that came out in force yesterday at the press 
conference held in Chiangmai certainly have heard of King Canute 
trying to stem the tide rising up to the shore, but that did little 
to prevent them from calling out to the foreign investors rushing 
into Burma to “immediately stop” their operations.

disgruntled employees are holding talks with representatives from 
the company that secured the mine’s tender at a pagoda 
in Yamethin district, where they’ve been confined since Monday.

Max Myanmar pulls out of Dawei Project

The Max Myanmar Group, a Burmese company, will no longer 
be involved in the Dawei project, a huge deep-sea port and 
industrial complex project in southern Burma, a business 
source in Rangoon told Mizzima on Monday.

Bangladesh Turns Away 1,500 Refugees from Burma

carrying about 1,000 Rohingya Muslims fleeing violence
