Burmese government to buy rice at ‘fair price’

New Delhi (Mizzima) – Due to a price drop for brown rice, the Burmese government 
will buy brown rice at a “fair price” and store the rice to prevent farmers 
from suffering losses.

However, the quantity of rice to be bought and the price are still being negotiated, 
according to the Myanmar Rice Industry Association (MRIA).

Activist arrested for filming protest

Police have detained an activist on charges of breaching Burma’s notorious Video 
Act after he allegedly filmed a protest by landless farmers in Irrawaddy division 
two months ago.Myint Naing’s house in the division’s capital of Bassein was 
surrounded by some 30 officers in an early morning raid on Monday. 
The Human Rights Watchdog Network’s leader is being 
held at a local police station.
