The Phan Foundation officially announced its call for
nominees to enter
the 5th year of the Padoh Mahn Sha Young Leader Award.
The
cut off date for applications is January 31, 2013.
The
Padoh Mahn Sha Young Leader Award is given each year to Karen
community workers
from the health, education, social or cultural sectors.
According to the
Foundation criteria, nominees should be Karen, aged
under 35 and nominations
should include name, place, field of work and
why they should be awarded the
Young Leader Award.

Soldiers from the 240th Light Infantry Regiment (LIR)
raided the Hpaikawng
Kachin refugee camp and burned at least 50 temporary tents
on Wednesday,
November 28, according to a report in Kachinland News.
The soldiers have currently detained about 20 men, but have released
all the
women and children, locals say.

Burmese President Thein Sein’s office moved quickly on
Thursday to distance
itself from a press release posted earlier by the
government’s Information Team
that had stated that security forces did not use
excessive force when breaking up
protests at Latpadaung Mountain where at least
80 people, including many
Buddhist monks, were burned and injured when riot
police moved in to disperse protesters.
