Myanmar's Ministry of Mining has announced that new gem mining permits 
will be issued at 1 million kyat (US $1,167) per gem mine block.


UN welcomes release of 24 child soldiers

The United Nations on Monday said it welcomed the release of 24 children
 by Myanmar’s armed forces, and called for further discharges of underage soldiers

a September 20 research paper published by Harvard University’s Ash Center 
for Democratic Governance and Innovation in which the author proposes
 a revised working model for the suspended Myitsone Dam in Kachin State.
