Myanmar President to Meet Yingluck Over Stalled Deep-Sea Port

Myanmar President Thein Sein meets Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra 
in Bangkok today to assess options for a planned $8.6 billion port and industrial 
zone that has struggled to attract private sector financing. 


Putao residents suffering from food shortages

Food prices are rising in Putao making life even more difficult 
for residents of the town in northern Kachin State.
Before the conflict between the Kachin Independence Army 
(KIA) and Burmese military started over a year ago there 
was enough food from the rice and vegetable farms in the 
surrounding areas. The clashes have forced many farmers 
to abandon their farms making the community reliant 
on rice transported from Myitkyina.
