Muslims Allowed Free Travel in Maungdaw

Muslims living in Maungdaw Township in western Burma’s Arakan State have 
been allowed to travel freely within their own township without prior 
approval starting from 21 April.

Villagers, who were forcibly relocated to make way for the Myitsone dam, 
received a surprise visit last month from the head of the Chinese firm 
behind the project, in an attempt to convince the villagers to support 
the stalled mega dam.

state newspapers claiming the government has launched a programme to 
eradicate forced labour by 2015.
