Deportation threat for 1m Burma migrants

Up to one million Burmese migrants face deportation if they fail to 
complete Thailand’s national verification procedure by 14 June, human 
rights campaigners warn, with the stateless Rohingya seen as 
particularly vulnerable.

Teenager ‘tortured, forced into sex trade’

A 17-year-old girl has filed a complaint with the International Labour 
Organisation in Rangoon in which she claims she was forced to become 
a sex worker by her aunt and uncle, who duped her parents into 
allowing them to care for the teenager.

Burmese Vice-President Visits Arakan Oil Pipeline

Burmese Vice-President Tin Aung Myint Oo visited Arakan State 
by helicopter on Monday to inspect construction work at the oil terminal 
being built on Maday Island.
The island marks the starting point of an oil pipeline stretching through 
Burma into China's southwest. A similar pipeline for natural gas to China 
also begins at nearby Ramree Island. 

11 'SIM Card' Campaigners Detained for Questioning in Rangoon

Eleven persons who were campaigning in the street for cheaper mobile 
phone/ SIM card distribution in Burma were stopped and questioned by 
local authorities in South Dagon Township of Rangoon on Tuesday morning.
