Myanmar mega-company given impunity for illegal oil import

No legal action was reportedly taken against a giant import company 
for illegal import of petrol. Instead, the company will only be fined in line 
with customs procedures, officials from the Customs Department say.

Vietnam, Myanmar sign US$543m worth agreements

Vietnam and Myanmar signed five joint-venture agreements worth US$543 
million during a business forum in Yangon on November 30.
Vietnam President Truong Tan Sang attended the event at the head office 
of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers 
of Commerce and Industry.

Myanmar to construct an offshore drill in 2013

An oil and gas drilling machine will be constructed at the offshore site 
“M-11” in Myanmar in 2013, according to Total E&P Co (Yangon).

“We have 40 per cent share in the M-11 project, and we are now planning to set up 
a drill. I think we can begin after the rainy season of 2013 [November],” 
said Namita Shah, general manager of Total E&P.

Inle Lake faces tourist dilemma

A sharp increase in the number of visitors to Inle Lake in southern Shan State 
is forcing up the room rates at hotels and guest houses this season.

“Foreign tourists often don’t know what to do,” said local resident Mya Maung. 

“They expect to pay around US $25 per night for a room, but now the lowest rate 
you’ll find is between $60 and $70.”
