Thein Sein asks Obama to help in upgrading Yangon Group

Myanmar President Thein Sein said he has requested US President Barack Obama 
to assist in upgrading Yangon city during their meeting in Yangon on November 19.
Thein Sein said he has requested two things: assistance to improve the quality 
of transportation and sanitation systems; and help to upgrade Yangon-Mandalay Highway.

Myanmar MP proposes to end state media operations

A member of parliament is seeking to cancel the operations of state-owned 
media and push ahead with a public service media plan.
Myanmar MP Thein Nyunt proposed this alternative in light of corruption 
allegations against the Ministry of Information, which is in charge 
of state-owned publications: New Light of Myanmar, Burmese version Myanma Alin, 
and Kyemon (The Mirror).

US, Myanmar vow to combat human trafficking

The United States and Myanmar have affirmed their commitment to 
the global efforts to combat human trafficking, according to a joint plan issued 
on November 18, one day before US President Barack Obama visited Myanmar.  

Bangladesh Deports Many Rohingyas Back To Burma

Over 28 Rohingya have been arrested for illegally crossing the Bangladesh 
border at Gumdum, Taungbro and Balukhali on Nov. 20. They were deported 
back to Burma the same day, according to one Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officer.

Coal extraction operation a concern for villagers

The Karen National Union in Southern Burma says a coal extraction operation 
near Karen villages in eastern Tavoy is not welcome. Villagers are concerned 
it could destroy most of their plantations.
