After 7 Years ‘Essential’ Red Cross Prison Visits Resume

RANGOON— After a seven-year hiatus, the International Committee of the Red Cross 
(ICRC) will once again be allowed to visit prisoners in Burma. The ICRC previously 
started assessing conditions for inmates in 1999, but the former ruling junta 
put a sudden end to this access in 2005.
